Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can I really open a business in Georgia and pay only 1% tax?

Yes, if you operate as an Individual Entrepreneur and your activity qualifies for Small Business Status. However, eligibility and tax treatment depend on the nature of your business and other circumstances. We strongly recommend getting our tax advice first to understand whether the 1% regime is suitable for you.

Do I need to live in Georgia to benefit from the 1% Small Business Status?

Small Business Status is granted to an Individual Entrepreneur and is therefore linked to you personally. If you remain a tax resident of another country, your income may also be taxable there. We generally recommend considering Georgian tax residency if you intend to rely on this regime.

What taxes does an LLC pay in Georgia?

Simply put, an LLC is taxed at approximately 20% when money is distributed from the company. In practice, taxes are generally payable when you withdraw funds from the LLC as salary, dividends, or other types of distributions. Unlike many other countries, Georgia does not impose annual corporate income tax on retained profits. This means that if you leave the profits in the company and reinvest them instead of withdrawing them, no corporate income tax is payable until the distribution is made.

Can you help me register Virtual Zone Entity or International Company status for an IT company, in Georgia?

Yes. We have experience assisting businesses with these preferential tax regimes. The key question, however, is whether your activities actually qualify. We recommend obtaining tax advice before applying to determine whether the relevant status will provide the expected benefits.

How long does business registration take in Georgia? Can it be done remotely?

An LLC or Individual Entrepreneur can generally be registered in one working day through the Public Service Hall. Remote registration is also possible with a properly executed power of attorney.

Do I need a work permit and residence permit to run a business in Georgia?

It depends on your activities and how you operate in Georgia. Certain Individual Entrepreneurs providing services exclusively to foreign clients may not require a work permit, while locally operating entrepreneurs and LLC directors working from Georgia may need appropriate permits. Contact us and we can assess your situation and recommend the appropriate approach.

Is it easy to close a business in Georgia?

Closing an Individual Entrepreneur is generally straightforward and relatively quick. Liquidating an LLC can be considerably more complex and time-consuming. If you need assistance, contact our team and we can review your case.
